"Zero" week Football Action Preview

Initial action in CIF Southern Section Football kicks off with a limited slate of games this weekend, the "zero" week , before the season swings into full gear after Labor Day.

Cabrillo HS teams (varsity, jv, frosh) will scrimmage San Marcos, while the Lompoc HS varsity (away) & jv (home) will challenge Oaks Christian HS [Westlake Village]. The LHS frosh are off this week.

LHS JV: This contest (Thursday, 30 Aug 07, 4 pm) vs. the Oaks Frosh-Soph at Lompoc's Huyck Stadium features largely unknown casts from both schools. Lompoc figures to have a decent shot this year after allowing Oaks to blow open a close game in the 2nd half last year. Playing at home always helps and, since a number of Oaks sophs have been called up to varsity, the Frosh-Sophs only list 13 sophs on their 45 player roster. The bad news is that they include folks like 10th-(road)"graders" Gregory Simon (6-1, 260) , Michael Stephens (5-11, 210) , and Giogio Valenzuela (6-1, 200)!

Rue Moore-mill Report

What I done heard on da' street was :
TB Bobby Collins was comin' back to Lompoc and joining the team,
so I hotfeeted it over to practice and thar' he were. Runnin' round the
field wearin' #24 an' lookin jes ta same as ever ( or a tad bit bigger).
Some folks say he won't be playin till a few games inta the season -
but I reakon thats up to Coach Luken.

[I thought that I would periodically include information from my old Georgia pal Rue - he always did have his ear to the ground...he got hit by a lot of cars because of that!]
